31 Aug DIY Boho/Botanical Wedding Card Box
Here’s how you can make your own boho or botanical style wedding card box in minutes, and for less than £20.00! This is the very first wedding DIY project that I made for my own wedding, it is so easy and so pretty, I think you’ll love it.
We decided not to ask for any gifts at our own wedding, but once we had recovered the next day we sat down with a coffee and had a pile of gifts and cards to go through which was such a lovely surprise! Whether you’ve asked your guests for gifts, money or just for their attendance, you’ll be sure to have cards given to you on your wedding day so you’ll definitely need something to store them in and keep them safe.
Wedding card ‘boxes’ come in all shapes and sizes nowadays. There are wooden boxes, postboxes, vintage suitcases, birdcages, acrylic boxes…the list goes on and on! We wanted something super simple for our wedding that would blend in seamlessly with our relaxed, botanical feel. I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted anywhere, so in classic DIY bride style I turned to Pinterest and found some amazing ideas that I thought would work really well and one in particular really caught my eye – the mini greenhouse. We didn’t really have a ‘colour scheme’ as such, just lots of transparent elements, white pops of colour and plenty of greenery; the mini greenhouse style card box fitted in just perfectly with my vision.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR GREENHOUSE CARD BOX
1. SOURCE YOUR MINI GREENHOUSE
There are loads of beautiful mini greenhouses online, but I settled with the IKEA White Socker Greenhouse as it’s simplicity was just what I was looking for, the size was perfect and it was a bargain price of just £12.00. If you want to go extra fancy, why not blow the budget a little with this lovely brass greenhouse from La Redoute…it’ll cost you £65.00 but it’s something beautiful that you can keep in your home forever (at least that’s how you can justify the price tag to your partner!)
2. STYLE YOUR MINI GREENHOUSE
We went with a really simple, pretty faux ivy garland in the bottom of our DIY wedding card box. It added some much needed colour and texture without taking up too much room or attention. You can pick up reasonably priced ivy garlands like this one in The Range, ours was less than £4.00. You could also add some pretty copper wire fairy lights for an added sparkle.
3. PERSONALISE YOUR GREENHOUSE
You can add anything you want to the front of your greenhouse, we went with ‘Cards’ to keep it simple, but you could always add something more personal if you prefer such as your initials or names. There are a couple of ways you can do this, Posca Pens are great (and you’ll definitely use them for other wedding crafts) but if you don’t want to hand-write on your greenhouse card box why not do what I did and buy a vinyl online. They’re really cheap and very easy to apply. I got ours from a seller on Etsy for just £2.95!
TOTAL DIY COST £18.54
That’s how I made our perfect wedding cards box for less than £20.00! I hope that you enjoy making your DIY wedding card box as much as I did.
